The Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse at the end of Passover on April 3, 33 A.D. described by Peter on the day of Pentecost (50 days later) was synchronized by its Creator from the perspective of Jerusalem like no other, on a day like no other. It has been said that the light of the Sun is like the Power and Righteousness of our Father in Heaven and the Moon that reflects that Light is like mankind, but on this day the Moon is represented by the Son of Man, being cut off as the Scriptures declare for a brief time allegorically by the Earth, Satan’s domain up to that time. The timing is uncanny as the start of the Lunar Eclipse begins within minutes of the final Crucifixion hour, the ninth hour of the Jewish day, according to Scripture, with Christ on the Cross but with the Moon still hidden from sight behind the Eastern horizon for a few more hours.
The five and a half-hour long eclipse starts within minutes of Jesus declaring, in Matthew 27:46 46 “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” which is a direct quote by Jesus of Psalms 22:1 prayed by David.
Some have argued that this eclipse could not have been the right eclipse because it was a partial eclipse, not a total eclipse. I don’t think it matters what so ever since the entire time the Moon was in the Umbra or shadow of the Earth, the moon had not risen yet above the Eastern horizon in Jerusalem. However, the Moon had risen minutes after it had fully moved back into the Penumbra or secondary shadow of the Earth, which is the same shadow regardless of the type of eclipse but varies primarily in the length of time it spends in the Penumbra with each eclipse. The Red color of the moon doesn’t come from the intensity of the shadow or lack of light by itself but in fact comes from the light that passes through the Earth’s Nitrogen filled atmosphere, refracting most colors and bending the remaining light until it is reduced to reds and oranges based on those colors’ wavelength. In this case, the Moon, fully in the Earth’s Penumbra, rises above the horizon in Jerusalem, where for less than an hour, the Moon is viewable through the thickest part of the Earth’s atmosphere so once the filtered light bounces back off of the moon, again it passes through the thickest part of the Earth’s atmosphere to filter more light that isn’t Red or Orange, viewable at this time in Jerusalem during Christ’s burial.
The entire April 3, 33 A.D. Lunar Eclipse coincides with the death and burial of Jesus Christ that ended with Passover by Nightfall in Jerusalem.
The Jewish Relative Hour
In the Bible, when time is referenced during a Hebrew day, it is referenced by 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours at night. Since the actual duration of daylight vs. nightlight varies throughout the year, Jewish Law determines the amount of daylight on a given day and divides by 12 and consequently, the remaining nightlight hours are also divided by 12. To calculate the time of the 12 hours of daytime between sunrise and sunset on April 3, 33 A.D., Stellarium is used to find those times as close as possible. By my demonstration below, sunrise on April 3, 33 A.D. was approximately at 5:48:46 AM IST and sunset was at 6:18:18 PM or a difference of 12:29:48, then divided by 12 is 1:02:29 per relative hour.
Using the diagrams below, the unseen Lunar eclipse started just after 2 PM IST along with the 9th hour of the Jewish day after sunrise, Matthew 27:46 says, “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” I would imagine a short time later in the same hour, Jesus says in John 19:28, “I thirst.“, in John 9:30, “It is finished.” and in Luke 23:46, “Jesus called out with a loud voice, ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.’ When he had said this, he breathed his last.” From this point, there was roughly 4 hours until sunset and up to 72 minutes after to be prepared to start the Sabbath according to Jewish Law. In this remaining time, the other 2 crucified with Jesus had their legs broken, all had their sides pierced to ensure they were dead, taken down from the crosses, taken to a tomb or place of burial, prepared for burial, and Jesus was entombed with armed guards to prevent His body from being stolen. While it is hard to estimate the timing of each step mentioned, I could imagine that as the large stone was rolled across Christ’s tomb and sealed that a heavy sigh and glance to the heavens would have been met by a large, red moon rising over the horizon in the perfectly timed phase of the eclipse around 6:30 PM before the official start to the Sabbath within the hour. The visible Blood Moon in Jerusalem timed with Christ’s burial is an amazing reminder of what happened that day and the promise yet to come like Noah’s Rainbow after the Flood and the Star of Bethlehem with Christ’s Birth.
An eclipse itself is emblematic of Christ’s life that paid the price for our Sin with the darkness and bloodiness of the crucifixion synchronized with the apex of the blood moon eclipse but is soon resurrected and restored back to life, becoming again white as unblemished linen! After Christ’s burial, the Moon itself remarkably becomes a declaration of His Resurrection power to come, foreshadowing a forsaken death, rising to life again by the light of the Father when the eclipse ends! Creation has been telling this story again and again since the beginning of time.
